Building Shape & Pattern
A training workshop exploring mathematical development through large scale 3D work, using recycled materials as a start point for inspiration. This fun session encourages observation and interest in shape whilst exploring early years maths concepts including; the use of mathematical language, problem solving involving shape and space, creating and repeating patterns, counting, sorting and making comparisons. Participants create large mathematical structures whilst responding in a free flow, open ended way to the potential offered by the materials.
“There is a wealth of materials around us which we can incorporate in creative activity... as well as using them to inspire maths, language and the creative process itself”
“I hope to provide more opportunites for children to work without a prescribed end-product in mind”
“Just by creating a framework will open up all sorts of opportunites for the children- interaction and co-operation as well as language and maths exploration”
